Twelve Indiana University One Here…One There members traveled to South Africa August 2008 for an education initiative project. After months of training and lesson plan writing, these members taught African education leaders and students how to use the XO One Laptop Per Child computers throughout a three week period. Working with student’s ages nine to seventeen in three different schools, IU OHOT members demonstrated the benefit of incorporating these laptops into normal classroom curriculum.
The people of the Limpopo Provice believe that with the laptops they can transform South Africa and grow as a nation. Violet Mamabolo, Producer of a South African National Public Radio Show, said, “Because of you, we are now linked to the outside world.”
Stress Hurts
College students face intense pressure from parents and teachers to excel academically and professionally and from peers to have an active social life. In today's technological world, where networks are bountiful and easily accessed, the pressure also derives from within. College students are constantly connected to the outside world, even further stimulated than before. Can it damage their self-control and cause psychological problems? A student and several professors from Indian University discuss the added pressure to a college student's life and how it affects them psychologically.
